The activation energy of AZO nano-composite films was calculated to be 49 kj/mol for the particles growth. The electrical structural and optical properties of AZO films were determined by changing ZnO:water and ZnO:Al ratios. ZnO:water and ZnO:Al ratios play an important role in controlling the electrical conductivity of the AZO nano-composite films. The optimum doping ratio of Al was found to be 2% in terms of the lowest resistivity and above 2% Al-doping concentration the surface resistivity of AZO nano-composite films starts to increase. The optical highest transmittance of the films of 86% in visible region and low surface resistivity of 70 Omega/square can be obtained for the optimum doping ratio of Al. (C) 2016 Elsevier GmbH. We run four probit regressions to elucidate (i) the saving decision (ii) asset choice or portfolio composition for those who save (iii) the bank loan decision and lastly (iv) the formal versus informal borrowing decision. We find income education marital status and region within country strongly correlate with those decisions. We offer some insights regarding the influence of variables like rural to urban migrant status and religious belief on saving and borrowing decisions. We discuss the long-term implications of our findings on the Turkish household savings performance.Book Review Integration Diversity and the Making of a European Public Sphere(USC ANNENBERG PRESS, 2018) Bozdağ Bucak, Çiğdem[Abstract Not Available]Article Citation - WoS: 18Citation - Scopus: 24Kurdish Cinema as a Transnational Discourse Genre: Cinematic Visibility, Cultural Resilience, and Political Agency(Cambrıdge Univ Press, 2014) Koçer Çamurdan, SuncemWithin the last few years, "Kurdish cinema" has emerged as a unique discursive subject in Turkey. Subsequent to and in line with efforts to unify Kurdish cultural production in diaspora, Kurdish intellectuals have endeavored to define and frame the substance of Kurdish cinema as an orienting framework for the production and reception of films by and about Kurds. In this article, my argument is threefold. First, Kurdish cinema has emerged as a national cinema in transnational space. Second, like all media texts, Kurdish films are nationalized in discourse. Third, the communicative strategies used to nationalize Kurdish cinema must be viewed both in the context of the historical forces of Turkish nationalism and against a backdrop of contemporary politics in Turkey, specifically the Turkish government's discourses and policies related to the Kurds. The empirical data for this article derive from ethnographic research in Turkey and Europe conducted between 2009 and 2012.Conference Object Multi-state Video Transmission With Network Coding [a? Kodlama ile Çoklu Durum Video İletimi](Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Şengel, Öznur; Ekmekçi Flierl, SılaThe goal of this work is to send video packets to all nodes in the network by enveloping Multi-State Video Coding (MSVC) at the same time network coding to maximize the throughput and video quality. This work has two main parts: 1) Multi-State Video Coding and 2) Network Coding. The main purpose of this work is to maximize not only the video quality but also the network throughput. We used Multi-State Video Coding to achieve robustness and we used network coding to increase throughput over the network. After generating the two subsequences using MSVC we apply network coding to support transmission of packets. In this manner we aim to increase the throughput as well as robustness and quality of the video transmission. © 2018 IEEE.Book Part Foreign Correspondents in Turkey Between the Home and Host Agendas(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2014) Yanardağoğlu, Eylem; Tiliç, L. Dogan[Abstract Not Available]Article The Relationship Between Muslim Religiosity Price-Value Consciousness Impulsive Buying Tendency and Post-Purchase Regret: a Moderation Analysis(Bilgesel Yayincilik San & Tic Ltd, 2014) Akarsu, Tuğra Nazlı; Yeniaras, VolkanReligion has been considered an inseparable part of culture. There is a considerable amount of research examining the relationship between religious affiliation and consumer behavior. Although past studies have confirmed that the religiosity and religious affiliation has an influence on consumers' consumption patterns scholars have focused on some specific aspects of consumer behavior such as shopping orientation media usage or purchasing behavior. To contribute new dimensions into the consumer behavior literature this study makes an attempt to examine how price and value consciousness effects: (1) impulsive buying tendency and (2) post-purchase regret regarding the transaction given Muslim religiosity via the use of moderation analyses in the specifics of a well-known religious congregation. To test the hypotheses the structural equation modeling was used to analyze data obtained from a judgmental sample of 235. Results demonstrated that religiosity has a statistically significant moderating effect on impulsive buying tendency and post-purchase regret.Conference Object Synthesis Of Resistively Terminated High-pass Lc Ladder Networks [direnç ile Sonlandırılmış Yüksek Geçiren Lc Merdiven Devrelerin Sentezi](2010) Şengül, Metin Y.; Aydoğar, ZaferIn this paper a transfer matrix factorization based synthesis algorithm for resistively terminated high-pass LC ladder networks is presented. In the algorithm component value of the extracted element and the scattering transfer matrix of the remaining network are formulated in terms of scattering transfer matrix coefficients of the whole network. An example is presented to exhibit the application of the proposed synthesis algorithm.Book Review Article Dirty White Candles: Ernest Hemingway's Encounter With the East(Univ Texas Press, 2012) Kenne, Mel[Abstract Not Available]Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10Cumulative Prospect Theory Preferences in Rent-Seeking Contests(Elsevier Science, 2018) Keskin, KerimWe investigate the equilibrium behavior for agents with cumulative prospect theory preferences in rent-seeking contests. From a total volume perspective exports are expected to contract due to a decline in demand (demand shock) from other subsidiaries downstream in the value chain. While in a comparative perspective multinational subsidiaries are found to perform relatively better than local firms that are integrated differently (arms' length) in global production networks (e.g. offshoring outsourcing). This chapter tries to reconcile these findings by testing a number of hypothesis about global integration strategies in the context of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and how it affected exporting among multinational subsidiaries operating out of Turkey. Controlling for the impact that exchange rate depreciations and volatility has on firm-level exports the study shows that the particular global event studied had no additional impact on individual firms' exports. Since multinational subsidiaries are more insulated from these effects they are able to expand rather than contract their global integration strategies throughout the course of the GFC.Conference Object Factors That Influence Support and Enforcement of the Smoke-Free Law in Turkey(Oxford University Press, 2016) Hayran, Mutlu; Aherrera, Angela; Çarkoğlu, Aslı; Ergör, Gül; Ergüder, Toker; Kaplan, Bekir; Susan, Jolie; Zheng, Laura; Cohen, Joanna E.; Navas-Acien, Ana[Abstract Not Available]Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2A New Approach for Coexistence of Ieee 802.11af and Ieee 802.22 Systems(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Ulgen, Oguz; Baykaş, Tunçer; Erküçük, SerhatIn this paper various algorithms are proposed to help IEEE 802.11af and IEEE 802.22 wireless systems to coexist in TV white space by considering multiple techniques. By using busy tone power control and multihop communication techniques improvements have been made compared to prior approaches. With this approach while IEEE 802.22 systems are protected from intra-network interference IEEE 802.11af systems are still able to continue transmitting packets. Considering the communication parameters and channel models compliant for the standards IEEE 802.11af and IEEE 802.22 system performances are investigated in terms of interfering packet rate and successful packet transmission rate for different scenarios and the improved results are presented. © 2018 IEEE.Conference Object Article Who Sets the Agenda in Turkey? Recent Political and Social Trends in Turkish Public Opinion(Common Ground Research Networks, 2015) Baybars Hawks, BanuIn terms of scholarly research and understanding the national social and political systems and policies the need exists for an empirical assessment of recent trends in public opinion in Turkey. Accordingly the current study seeks to fill the gap in the social sciences literature in English regarding Turkey's social and political stand which may be perceived to be very different by other nations. Without timely feedback from public surveys various programs for improving different services and institutions functioning in the country might not achieve their expected goal nor can decisions about which programs to implement be made rationally. Additionally the information gathered may not only yield important insights into public opinion regarding the current agenda in Turkey but also into how it correlates to shaping public policies. In analyzing data from the Social and Political Trends in Turkey survey this research seeks to address a new insight in the social sciences literature. © Common Ground Banu Baybars Hawks All Rights Reserved.Article Citation - WoS: 8Citation - Scopus: 10Re-Considering the Linkage Between the Antecedents and Consequences of Happiness(Elsevier Science Bv, 2016) Yeniaras, Volkan; Akkemik, K. Ali; Yücel, ErayA growing number of studies examine the antecedents of happiness but only a handful of them appear to undertake an analysis of its consequences. Employing a unique cross-sectional data set of 413 adults we examine the relationship of the antecedents of happiness on its outcomes via mediation analysis. We show that the web of relations in this domain is more complicated than it is commonly understood. We provide empirical evidence that income enhances individuals' life satisfaction. We also find a non-linearity in the relation of age to frugality and to attitude towards debt. Whereas a positive relationship exists between employment and frugality income negatively affects frugality. We find strong evidence to suggest that life satisfaction reverses the relationships of employment and income to frugality. Additionally we obtained empirical evidence to suggest that employment income and sex positively affect attitude towards debt. Furthermore we provide empirical evidence that the relationships of age and. income to attitude towards debt are complementarily mediated by frugality while frugality competitively mediates the relationship of employment to attitude towards debt. Finally the results reveal that there exists an indirect-only effect of life satisfaction to attitudes towards debt through frugality. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. Data were collected from 148 opposite-sex romantic partners (18-61 years old) with the mean relationship duration being 8.04 years. Dyadic data were analysed through the actor-partner interdependence model framework. We proposed a model where co-regulation between partners has indirect effects on the relationship between PPR and binge eating. Results showed that there was no direct association between PPR and binge eating scores of the participants. However, significant direct associations were found regarding both actor and partner effects of PPR on co-regulation between romantic partners. In addition, there were four significant indirect effects: Women's co-regulation had an indirect effect on the link between PPR and women's binge eating scores. Similarly, women's co-regulation had also a significant indirect effect on the link between PPR and men's binge eating. These findings are the first to illustrate a relationship between PPR and binge eating. This study is the first attempt to examine binge eating in terms of co-regulation processes.Article Citation - Scopus: 5The Akp Story: Turkey's Bumpy Reform Path Towards the European Union(2011) McDonald, Deniz BingölThe Justice and Development Party (AKP) government between 2002 and 2007 managed to accomplish unprecedented economic reforms maintaining 8% growth and passed legislation to change Turkey into a more democratic country in line with the Copenhagen political conditions. After being rewarded with the start of accession negotiations in 2005 and an electoral landslide in 2007 AKP's second term in office is in stark contrast with its earlier days of glory. AKP disengaged itself from the IMF agreement and took EU reforms off the top of its agenda bringing half a decade of political and economic reforms to a halt. The paper argues that AKP utilized the credibility of IMF and EU support to defeat its domestic rivals but once the external incentives lessened AKP turned inwards to consolidate its power and cared for little else. The first part of the paper explores how AKP managed to construct such a broad reform consensus and assesses the role of the external influence. The second part explores why and how this reform consensus fell apart.
