Conference Object Citation - WoS: 4An Applied Analysis for Whether the Relation Between Innovation and Foreign Direct Investment Is Vicious for Turkey After the Early 1980s(Elsevier Science Bv, 2016) Doruk, Ömer TuğsalThe relation between innovation and foreign direct investment (FDI) is investigated in this paper by using time series Vector Autoregression (VAR) method. The main research question of the paper is whether FDI contributes on development of innovation in Turkey or vice versa. In Turkey after the structural transformations in Turkish economy export led growth is taken as vein that feeds to the economic development and thus importance of foreign direct investments have been increasing in the post-1980 period. The obtained findings show that FDI has not been contributing to innovationConference Object Citation - WoS: 0Beliefs of Donors About Liver Failure and Transplantation Surgery(Elsevier France-Editions Scientifiques Medicales Elsevier, 2015) Krespi, Margörit Rita; Tankurt, A.; Acarlı, Koray; Kalayoğlu, Murat; Kanmaz, Turan[Abstract Not Available]Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Digital Epidemiology: Can Google Trends Give Some Information About Electronic Cigarette Usage in Turkey?(European Respiratory Soc Journals Ltd, 2018) Uysal, Mehmet Atilla; Çarkoğlu, Aslı; Niksarlioglu, Yelda; Çarkoğlu, Aslı; Uysal, Omer; Kutluk, Ali Cevat; Karadag, Bulent[Abstract Not Available]Conference Object Citation - WoS: 0Donors' Evaluation of Their Lives Following the Diagnosis of Liver Failure and Transplantation Surgery(Elsevier France-Editions Scientifiques Medicales Elsevier, 2015) Krespi, Margörit Rita; Tankurt, A.; Acarli, Koray; Kalayoglu, Murat; Kanmaz, Turan[Abstract Not Available]Conference Object Citation - WoS: 0Electronic Cigarette and Quit Smoking Quest in Twitter: Preliminary Study(European Respiratory Soc Journals Ltd, 2018) Uysal, Mehmet Atilla; Çarkoğlu, Aslı; Çarkoğlu, Aslı; Kurnaz, AhmetAims: Use of electronic cigarettes has dramatically increased in last few years. Although the sales of e-cigarettes were banned since 2013, they can still be easily purchased via online sales, and its' advertisement is rife in the social media. We aimed to take a closer look at the contents of the shared information about e-cigarettes on one such media outlet, Twitter. Methods: We tracked twitter for 102 days (from 25.09.2017-26.01.2018) searching for Turkish key words “electronic cigarettes”, “ ecigarettes”, or “e-cigarettes” using R software. This data was classified using unsupervised topic modelling. Resulting dataset was reduced and classified and 15 topics were established. Results: First 10 terms under each of the 15 topics were prioritized for this presentation. Words such as tobacco, dependence, cancerogen, substance, containing, waterpipe, liquid, liver indicated a general “harms of e-cigarettes” idea. Terms such as liquid, atomiser, IQS, health, aroma, variety, price, e-cigarette device pointed to “product advertising and marketing”. Text under topic 8 was more concerned with legalization issues, indicated by text such as “Iqos”(6) “omnibus bill”, “legal”. Text under topics 9 and 10 and the videos under topic 11 were mostly related to constraints in use and safety issues. Conclusion: Results of the study showed that chatter in the Turkish social media is mostly focused on those smokers contemplating quitting due to health risks involved in smoking. This points to an important opportunity for tobacco control community in Turkey to further inform the public on healthy ways to quit smoking and work to make cessation services more accessable Footnotes Cite this article as: European Respiratory Journal 2018 52: Suppl. 62, PA4544. From a total volume perspective exports are expected to contract due to a decline in demand (demand shock) from other subsidiaries downstream in the value chain. While in a comparative perspective multinational subsidiaries are found to perform relatively better than local firms that are integrated differently (arms' length) in global production networks (e.g. offshoring outsourcing). This chapter tries to reconcile these findings by testing a number of hypothesis about global integration strategies in the context of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and how it affected exporting among multinational subsidiaries operating out of Turkey. Controlling for the impact that exchange rate depreciations and volatility has on firm-level exports the study shows that the particular global event studied had no additional impact on individual firms' exports. Since multinational subsidiaries are more insulated from these effects they are able to expand rather than contract their global integration strategies throughout the course of the GFC.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 0An Illustration of 'strategic Early Warning System' Software and Its Use as a Decision-Making Aid for Professional Football (soccer) Clubs(Destech Publications, 2014) Bisson, Christophe; A. Bısson, Chrıstophe Louıs; Büyüktürk, BoraAll economic sectors under the influence of globalization deregulation and growth of Information Technology and Communication are in constant change face a fiercer competition and 'big data'. One solution to address these phenomena is the Strategic Early Warning System. A method of the Strategic Early Warning System and its related software have been developed by Christophe Bisson. This paper shows the importance of the created software through the case of the strategic management of professional football (soccer) teams. Thus a simulation was done for calculating the impacting potential strategic scenarios and their actual impacts. Therein any organization could integrate this 'Strategic Early Warning System' software as a decision system support to anticipate events rather than reacting to them act faster and better than competitors.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 37Panel Data Analysis of Foreign Direct Investment and Poverty From the Perspective of Developing Countries(Elsevier Science, 2014) Ucal, Meltem Şengün; Ucal, MeltemThe purpose of this paper is to assess the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and poverty at the macro-pathway in selected developing countries. The contribution to host countries from FDI can take several forms such as the transfer of technology human capital development increased competition in domestic markets and the generation of corporate tax revenues among others. The paper develops a data set and an econometric model to analyse FDI flows and poverty relations at the macro level panel data set. Results show that there is statistically significant relationship between FDI and poverty and it is obvious that FDI reduces poverty in selected developing countries. (C) 2014 The Authors. The model set up has the best prediction ability and is therefore suitable for econometrics estimation. Between the dependent variable Y and other independent explanatory variables X must be a strong relationship in econometrics estimation. However all explanatory variables cannot be related to dependent variable Y. This condition creates a regression problem. A similar problem appears in variable selection equivalent to problem in model selection. The most suitable faultless model is provided by correct and suitable selection of variables. There exist many variable/model selection procedures the where the necessary relationship between X and Y is linearConference Object Citation - WoS: 0The Russian Policies in the South Caucasus(IOS Press, 2011) Çelikpala, Mitat; Çelikpala, MitatIn the post-2000 period, Russia's relations with the former Soviet geography, or its "near abroad," are dominated by such issues as energy, namely the dependence of the surrounding countries on Russia, changes in the trade patterns and the impact of globalization, the fight with terrorism, entrenched ethnic conflicts, and the enlargement of Western structures including NATO. In this general framework, the Caucasus has had a special importance for Russia due to its geopolitical and strategic position at the crossroads of energy transit lines, the existence of rich energy resources and the complexity of its ethnic structure. This article aims to analyze Russian Federation's Caucasus policy in a comprehensive manner.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 0Terrorist Threats To Energy Critical Infrastructure Technology and Protection Systems(IOS Press, 2013) Çelikpala, Mitat; Çelikpala, MitatCritical infrastructure is an umbrella term referring to a country's assets that are essential to the nation's security public health and safety economic vitality and way of life. This infrastructure is owned or operated by both the public and the private sector. All agencies responsible for protecting the critical infrastructure act to mitigate the risks through implementing risk management techniques. Even the best security management plans and legislation which compel their enforcement are worthless without proper implementation. In this implementation stage continuous analysis should be made. This effort necessitates investment in horizon scanning early warning risk analysis intelligence gathering and dissemination. With the help of these phases crises prevention crisis management post-crisis stabilization and consequence management could be conducted. All affected parties should also kept ready through training and education research and development programs and prepared to reply any kind of terrorist threat on the critical energy infrastructure.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 0Theory of Planned Behavior: Physical Activity Predictors Among Turkish University Students(Human Kinetics Publ Inc, 2019) Tarcan Kumkale, Gökçe; Sen, Celia K. The collapse of the Soviet Union removed the century-old Soviet/Russian threat while at the same time created a power vacuum on Turkey's borders. In this environment Turkey became an important actor in the region as a result of its strong historical connections. While Turkey had traditionally avoided involvement in regional politics it has since been drawn into the volatile new politics of the region. After twenty years Turkey has become one of the important players in a region where its involvement has particularly increased since the August 2008 with its suggestion to establish Caucasus Cooperation and Stability Platform. Although its attempt to further engage Armenia is halted now and economic and political conditions in the region are unlikely to stabilize for some years it is without doubt that Turkey will continue to create new networks of interdependency between Ankara and the regional capitals.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Turkish Foreign Policy and Cross-Border Cooperation in the South Caucasus(IOS Press, 2013) Çelikpala, Mitat; Çelikpala, MitatThis article aims at a comprehensive evaluation of Turkey's foreign policy in the Caucasus after 2008.
