Abstract
Paul Auster uses the fundamental paradox of representative reality and representative
illusion to convey a quest for identity through multiple identities of the characters. His novels
highlight this quest and its steps and thus question the issue of identity by displaying the
responses of the characters to stages. Paul Auster questions the issue of identity by means of
his characters’ quest stages such as objectification, coincidence, solitude, and encounters with
alter ego which finally ends up with a kind of metaidentity that brings the
writer/reader/character trio all together.
Paul Auster bütün romanlarında bir metakimlik bulmaya calışmaktadır.Bu aşamalar yalnızlık,kader ve nesneleştirme gibi aşamalardan oluşur.
