Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 13Comparing Task-Based Instruction and Traditional Instruction on Task Engagement and Vocabulary Development in Secondary Language Education(Routledge Journals Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2018) Page, Merve Halici; Mede, EnisaThe purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the impact of task-based instruction (TBI) and traditional instruction (TI) on the motivation and vocabulary development in secondary language education. The focus of the study was to also find out the perceptions of teachers about implementing these two instructional methods in their teaching practices. The participants were 97 students and 2 teachers engaged in the 7th grade EFL program at a private school in Istanbul Turkey. Data was collected quantitatively from a vocabulary check test and motivation scale as well as qualitatively from semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that implementing TBI had positive impact on students' vocabulary development as well as their motivation. In line with these findings it was also suggested that teachers perceived TBI to be a more effective method to be incorporated in secondary grade language practices. Based on the gathered findings suggestions for redesigning and implementing the existing 7th grade EFL program were provided.Article Citation - WoS: 8Elderly People's Choice of Media and Their Perceived State of Loneliness(Online Journal Communication & Media Technologies-Ojcmt, 2016) Ongun, Erdem; Güder, Feride Zeynep; Demirağ, AşkınThis study aims at finding the relationship between elderly people's perceived state of loneliness and their choice of (old and/or new) media instruments. The sample of the study consists of randomly selected 300 elderly people over 60 who reside in rest homes in two different cities, Hatay and Istanbul in Turkey. Participants were given a questionnaire with three sections. The first section included questions related to the participants' demographic characteristics. Adapted from Russell's (1996) "Loneliness Scale (Version 3)", the second part was related to participants' perceived state of loneliness. Final section was about their choice of media and related details such as aim and time spent on them. Analyzed by statistical methods, study findings show that elderly people from two different social settings and with changing demographic features display differing degrees of loneliness with a significant relationship between the forms of media they used, their related choices, aims and perceived state of loneliness.Article Citation - WoS: 38Citation - Scopus: 46Morphotectonic Development of the Marmara Region(Elsevier Science Bv, 2010) Yılmaz, Yücel; Gokasan, Erkan; Erbay, A.
